Kate Sturdy

Executive Coach and Mentor

Kate is a qualified executive coach and mentor (L7, Institute of Leadership and Management).  She has 20 years senior leadership and management experience in local government, private sector and the UK civil service, working extensively with Boards, senior public sector policy and strategy leads, front-line practitioners and politicians. She has advised Secretaries of State on strategic policy direction, and led significant areas of policy reform in children’s services, child poverty and workless families policy.

Kate has a strong track record in learning and development and change management. She is an experienced facilitator, currently leading group coaching sessions with Thresholds Ltd to help participants build and practice the skills to succeed at interviews. Kate is an active mentor for Thresholds Ltd, and is working with them to design and deliver development programmes for senior civil service mentors. Within local and national government and private sector, she has established and developed high performing teams, improved motivation and engagement, and led the development of service-wide learning and development and diversity & inclusion interventions.

As an independent executive coach, mentor, facilitator and Director of Kate Sturdy Coaching, her coaching practice has included working with senior managers in the Civil Service, NHS and private sector. She has accreditation from the Engendering Balance Centre as a Balance in Leadership practitioner, and endorsement in neuroscience for leadership coaching from Professor Patricia Riddell, Clinical Psychologist, University of Reading. She is a fully qualified practitioner in Hogan’s psychometric assessments. Kate is a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and abides by their code of conduct.

Kate has continued to work part time as a senior civil servant in the Department for Work and Pensions, where she leads the capability building, resource planning and business support service for 1,400 staff in Policy Group. Kate started her career as a teacher and holds a BA (Hons) degree, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, and Master of Arts with distinction in Education Policy.
